Lithuania's 2021 conscription lists will be compiled on January 7, 2021 and over 3,800 young people will be called up for initial mandatory military service, the Defense Ministry said on Tuesday, cites LETA/BNS.

Another 210 students of higher education institutions will be able to complete their mandatory military service via the Junior Officer Command Training program, it said. 

"Permanent mandatory military service remains one of the most successful projects for strengthening the Armed Forces," outgoing Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis, who signed his decree on next year's conscription in late November, was quoted as saying in a press release. 

"Conscripts make up as much as 73% of professional military service recruits, which is the best proof of the service’s attractiveness," he added.

The draftee lists are to be published online at https://sauktiniai.karys.lt within a month of the start of the draft.
