The governments of Lithuania and Poland are holding a joint meeting in Vilnius on Thursday, LETA/BNS informed.

The meeting at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania will bring together over 20 ministers and government chancellors of the two countries and will be chaired by Prime Ministers Saulius Skvernelis and Mateusz Morawiecki.

The prime ministers and ministers are holding bilateral talks ahead of the joint session.

"The meetings will summarize the progress made in the strategic partnership between Lithuania and Poland," the Lithuanian government said in a press release. "Much attention will be paid to the strengthening of cultural relations and the shared historical memory policy, as well as close cooperation in education."

The two countries' health ministers will discuss COVID-19 response measures.

"Strategic transport and energy infrastructure projects will also be on the agenda, along with plans for the future in terms of economic cooperation, particularly as regards Orlen Lietuva and the cooperation between the railway companies of both countries," the government said.

"The counterparts will also discuss the security situation in the region and the development of defense cooperation. They will also focus on the regional responsibility of Lithuania and Poland in mobilizing the support of the international community for the people of Belarus," it said.

"Several important documents covering different fields of Lithuania-Poland cooperation are expected to be signed during the meeting."

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda is also meeting with Morawiecki to discuss possible scenarios for the de-escalation of the situation in Belarus, as well as security and defense, relations with Russia and other issues.

Skvernelis, at whose initiative the joint meeting was organized, said in the press release that Lithuania and Poland "talk and find agreement on absolutely all the issues of the bilateral relations and the neighborhood policy".

The Lithuanian-Polish relations have noticeably warmed up in recent years, despite ongoing differences on historical and national minority issues.
