Bomb made by minors explodes at Lillekula Gymnasium in Tallinn

A homemade explosive device exploded at Tallinn's Lillekula Gymnasium on Friday and two minors, a teenage boy and girl, are suspected of making the explosive and organizing the explosion, the Estonian daily Postimees writes, cites LETA/BNS.


The alarm center received a call at 11:30 p.m. on Friday that an explosion was heard from Lillekula Gymnasium and smoke could be seen emitting from the school building. The prosecutor's office launched criminal proceedings.


Marie Aava, spokesperson for the North District Prosecutor's Office, told Postimees that the prosecutor's office launched criminal proceedings under the section of the Penal Code concerning the causing of an explosion that results in danger to property.


"There are grounds to suspect an underage girl and boy from whom the police took statements after the incident and who were then handed over to their parents," Aava said.


According to the preliminary assessment of experts working at the scene, the explosion was caused by an explosive device made of deodorant bottles.


According to the data collected so far, the youngsters may have entered the building through a window. The purpose of the criminal proceedings launched is to find out all the circumstances as well as why the young people committed the thoughtless act.
