Basketball club VEF Riga has signed shooting guard Marcis Vitols and re-signed forward Arnolds Hermanis.

Last season, Vitols was playing for Ventspils, averaging 6.4 points, 3.3 assists and 2.1 rebounds in twenty Latvian-Estonian Basketball League games. He also averaged 7.2 points, 2.7 assists and 1.5 rebounds in ten FIBA Europe Cup matches.

Vitols has also been a member of Latvian U-20 and U-19 national teams at the European and World Championships.

Helmanis averaged 8 points, 5.3 rebounds for VEF Riga in ten matches of the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League last season, as well as 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in four Basketball Champions League games.

VEF Riga were crowned Latvian champions last season. In Basketball Champions League, VEF Riga suffered thirteen defeats and did not qualify for the round of 16.
