BC, Tallinn, 29.06.2020.Print version

Belarusian nationals residing in Estonia are staging a demonstration in front of the embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Magdaleena Street in Tallinn from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on June 29th, informs LETA/BNS.

The picket is to be held in support of fair and transparent presidential elections in Belarus and in protest against illegal arrests of alternative presidential candidates, activists and ordinary citizens.

"Ahead of the elections, illegal practices and intimidation have taken place in Belarus, causing outrage and anger. We care about the future of Belarus and stand in solidarity with all Belarusian political prisoners, activists and opponents of the [Belarusian President Alexander] Lukashenko regime and all those who take a stand for a fair vote-counting procedure," organizers of the demonstration said.

The purpose of the picket is to bring together Belarusian citizens residing in Estonia, draw the Estonian media's attention to political repressions in Belarus, express the opinion of Estonian Belarusians to the ambassador of Belarus and show solidarity in terms of fair elections with all citizens in the world who deem the situation in Belarus important.

"As long as we are invisible, we will be vulnerable. Only together can we win. We welcome all those interested in joining the demonstration, and seek wide media coverage," the organizers said.
