More than 400 people lined a section of Brivibas Street on Thursday morning to protest construction of the State Security Service's building at the former Marss velodrome in Riga, LETA observed.

The protesters were standing along Brivibas Street from the area where the Marss velodrome was formerly located, 207 Brivibas Street, all the way to the Freedom Monument, observing a two-meter distance. Most were wearing face masks.

All the protesters were holding placards, demanding that the Security Service's building be not constructed at 207 Brivibas Street. Other placards emphasized the importance of trees and urged their fellowmen not to be "sheep".

Among the protesters, there were a number of the New Conservative Party's members as well as Green Party activists.

As reported, after a lengthy and heated debate last Thursday, Saeima rejected the New Conservative Party's (JKP) proposal to order the government to revoke its decision to construct the State Security Service's new building on the territory of the former Marss velodrome.
