Estonian rally driver Ott Tanak, who sealed his maiden World Rally Championship (WRC) title last week, is to leave Toyota Gazoo Racing to join Hyundai Motorsport, according to the Postimees information reported LETA/BNS.

Tanak has signed with Hyundai a two-year contract.

"I'm really excited to announce that I will join Hyundai Motorsport from 2020 season," Tanak wrote on social media.  "The vision that [Hyundai team director] Andrea Adamo has set out is very promising and matches my own ambitions for the future. It's a big honor for me to have the opportunity to join the team at this exciting stage of our respective careers."

"We've been fighting closely against each other for a number of seasons. They have always had a competitive team and car, so now it will be interesting to see things from the other side," he said.

Hyundai Motorsport said that Tanak is to join its team for at least two seasons.

"We're thrilled to announce that Estonian driver Ott Tanak will join our team for the WRC 2020 and 2021 seasons. The Estonian will contest two full campaigns with our team, starting at Rallye Monte-Carlo in January," the Hyunday team said.

Hyundai Motorsport fielded five drivers for the 2019 WRC season -- Thierry Neuville, Andreas Mikkelsen, Dani Sordo, Sebastien Loeb and Craig Breen. Adamo said that Tanak and Neuville will be Hyundai's lead drivers during the upcoming season, while Sordo will share the third i20 car with Loeb.
