Thursday flag day in Estonia in honor of Native Language Day
In celebration of the Native Language Day on Thursday, all
state and local government authorities and legal persons governed by public law
are to hoist the Estonian flag to mark the occasion, reported LETA/BNS.
Households, businesses and organizations may also hoist the flag to celebrate the Native Language Day, spokespeople for the Government Office told.
Flags are hoisted at sunrise or at 8 a.m. at
the latest and lowered at sunset. If a flag is not lowered, it must be
illuminated in the dark.
The Native Language Day is dedicated to the Estonian
language and is celebrated on the birthday of Estonian poet Kristjan Jaak
Peterson. A traditional e-dictation exercise is held on this day, participants
in which numbered 6,377 last year. On Wednesday, winners of the Best Language
Deed competition will be announced at the Miina Harma Gymnasium in Tartu.
