Next week in Latvia may wind up being the coldest of winter, LETA learned from meteorologists.

Saturday will be sunny, Sunday - not so much as a weather front will bring moderate to heavy snow to Latvia. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged during the weekend.

Weather will be about the same at the beginning of next week, but later on temperatures may drop to below minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Earlier meteorologists were predicting that Latvia would see the coldest weather and deepest snow during the latter part of the winter. The upcoming cold spell, which will mostly affect Western and Central Europe, is largely due to changes in the stratosphere that began in December.
