Ships of the Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1) are about to visit Tallinn this week.

SNMG1 is led by Cmdr. Carsten Fjord-Larsen of the Royal Danish Navy, military spokespeople in Tallinn said LETA/BNS.

The flagship of the standing maritime group is HDMS Esbern Snare, also of the Royal Danish Navy. The Absalon-class support ship is 137 meters long and its crew is made up of around one hundred personnel. When in support functions, the vessel can accommodate up to 300 personnel.

SNMG1 is one of NATO's four standing maritime forces composed of ships from various allied countries. These vessels provide a continuous maritime capability for NATO to perform different tasks ranging from partnership building and enhancing NATO relationships to being able to conduct high intensity warfare. They also serve as an on-call maritime force as a part of the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) while demonstrating forward presence and contributing to operational interoperability among allied naval forces.
