Javelin thrower Magnus Kirt opened the Estonian team's medal count at the European Athletics Championships in Berlin when he won bronze with a distance of 85.96 meters thrown in the opening round, the sports portal of the public broadcaster ERR and daily Postimees reported.

Kirt, who for the first time reached the final competition at the European Championships, managed a personal best right away with the opening throw.

Germany achieved double victory at home with Thomas Rohler crowned European champion with 89.47 meters and Andreas Hoffmann coming second with 87.60 meters.
