Canadian PM thanks troops of NATO multi-national battalion for serving in Latvia
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, currently on a visit to Latvia, thanked the troops of the Canada-led NATO multi-national battalion deployed to Latvia.
He visited the Adazi military base in central Latvia and thanked the troops of the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup for serving in Latvia, the Latvian Defense Ministry said.
Trudeau met with the allied and Latvian soldiers and, accompanied by the Latvian defense officials, inspected the infrastructure and military equipment at the Adazi base. He also participated in the candle-lighting ceremony to commemorate fallen soldiers.
Canada leads the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup deployed to Latvia and comprising more than 1,000 soldiers from Canada, Albania, the Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. The battlegroup is one of NATO's strategies to enhance the NATO presence in the region and strengthen the region's security.
