BC, Tallinn, 15.06.2018.Print version

Danish troops serving in the allied battle group deployed in Estonia will on Friday mark the day of the Danish flag in Tapa with a concert for local residents, informs LETA/BNS.

The five-hour event scheduled to begin at the Ivaste stadium at noon features Estonian singers Liis Lemsalu and Getter Jaani, trumpeters of the Danish hussars, and Brandon Beal and Shaka Loveless from Denmark. At 3 p.m. the Danish flag will fall from the sky like it happened 799 years ago near Tallinn as legend maintains. Danish soldiers together with their equipment will also be present at the stadium. The concert is free for all.

"I hope the people of Tapa will come to the stadium tomorrow and have a good time together with us. The first rotation of Danish troops will leave in July and with this concert they wish to thank the people of Tapa who have been good hosts," the chief of the Danish contingent, Lt. Col. Carsten Winther, said.

The day of the Danish flag is celebrated on June 15, the date on which according to legend the Dannebrog fell from the sky during a battle Danish forces were fighting near the present-day Tallinn in 1219.

Denmark has contributed approximately 300 personnel and various battle equipment including CV9035 combat vehicles to the allied battle group.
