After losing a close one to Sweden 2:3 in the quarterfinals of the Ice Hockey World Championships on Thursday, the Latvian national ice hockey team concluded the tournament in overall eight place, informs LETA.

This was the best result for the Latvia squad at the World Championships since 2009, when it finished in overall seventh place.

Latvia also finished in seventh place in 1997 and 2004.

Latvia finished in 10th place at last year's World Championships, and in 13th place at the 2016 and 2015 editions.
