“Paradise ‘89” a new feature film by Latvian director Madara Dislere, will
get its world premiere on March 19 at the BUFF International Film Festival in
Sweden, the project’s representative Aleksa Springe told LETA.
Dislere’s film has also been included in the program of Norway’s Kristiansand
International Children's Film Festival where it will be shown on April 26.
The film’s premiere in Latvia is scheduled for February 22. The film’s news
conference will also take place on the same day at the Splendid Palace cinema
in Riga.
“Paradise ‘89” tells a story of two sisters, aged 7 and 9, who arrive in a
small town to spend summer holidays with their cousins. It’s August 1989, and
the Awakening Movement is under way in Latvia to shake off the Soviet regime.
The film is one of the cinematic projects that are being developed as part
of Latvia’s Centenary Film program.
