Reigning NHL champions Penguins call up Blugers
The NHL reigning champions Pittsburgh Penguins have called up Latvian
forward Teodors Blugers from the AHL club Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, informs LETA.
This is the first time the 23-year-old Blugers is called up to Pittsburgh.
He may play in his first NHL match on Friday when the Penguins will play the
Dallas Stars.
Blugers has been recalled from the Penguins' farm club as several Penguins
forwards are out with injuries, including Tom Kuhnhackl, Carter Rowney and
Patric Hornqvist.
So far this season, Blugers has scored 12 goals and made 14 assists in the
AHL, and is the third highest-scoring player for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
Penguins. His current efficiency rating is plus 10.
As reported, Blugers was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second
round (52nd overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft. The Penguins signed Blugers to a
two-year, entry-level contract in March 2016.
Blugers suited up for Latvia for the Hockey World Championship last May. He
scored one goal in seven matches as Team Latvia, coached by Bob Hartley,
finished in tenth place.
