Minus 4.7 degrees Celsius were registered in Rezekne,
eastern Latvia, last night which is a new cold record for May 10 not only for
Rezekne but also for the whole country, writes LETA.
According to the information from the Latvian Environment,
Geology and Meteorology Center, new cold records in the range between minus 2.3
and minus 4.3 degrees Celsius were registered in altogether six observation
stations in Latvia, mostly in the western part of the country.
The previous national cold record for May 10 was minus 4.3

According to local sources, up to eight centimeters thick
layer of snow covered Jekabpils, south-eastern Latvia, on Wednesday morning,
and over 10 centimeters of snow were reported around Saldus in western Latvia
but snow melted soon.
Cold weather will stay in Latvia on Wednesday with maximum
air temperatures predicted from plus 5 to plus 8 degrees Celsius. Occasional
brief snowing, which might be quite intensive in some locations, is expected.
In Riga, heavy snowing in the morning will later be replaced
by sun, and temperature will rise to plus 7 or plus 8 degrees Celsius.
