Latvian ice hockey club Riga Dinamo has informed that it has offered the head coach of the Latvian national men's ice hockey team Bob Hartley to become the head coach of the Kontinental Ice Hockey League (KHL) club, reports LETA.

A meeting took place yesterday between Hartley and the council chairman of Dinamo Juris Savickis.

The two sides discussed the possibility of Hartley becoming the head coach of the Riga club, and an official offer was made. The two sides decided to continue talks on Hartley's possible involvement in the near future.

Hartley is currently preparing the Latvian national men's ice hockey team for this year's Ice Hockey World Championships.

The 56-year-old Hartley has coached three National Hockey League (NHL) clubs: Colorado Avalanche from 1998 to 2003, Atlanta Thrashers from 2003 to 2008, and Calgary Flames from 2012 to 2015.

In the 2011/2012 season, Hartley was the head coach of the Swiss hockey club Zurich ZSC Lions, helping the club win the Swiss championship.

With Hartley as the head coach, the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in 2001.

In June 2015, Hartley won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's coach of the year.
