The DPA news agency reported last month that Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won football's Ballon d'Or award for a fourth time.

The award by France Football magazine comes at the end of a year in which the Portuguese star won the Champions League with Real Madrid and Euro 2016 with Portugal.

Ronaldo had previously won the award in 2008, 2013 and 2014, and is now one behind Argentina striker Lionel Messi's record tally of five from 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015.

Barcelona's Messi was second in the vote, ahead of France striker Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona forwards Luis Suarez and Neymar, France Football said.
