Formin says Turkey ready to build mosque in Estonia if Estonians agree

BC, Tallinn, 27.10.2016.Print version

Turkey is ready to build a mosque in Estonia provided that the Estonian authorities agree to it, Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusogulu said in Tallinn on Thursday.

"If Estonians agree, we will be more than happy to build a mosque here in Tallinn or somewhere else. We will be very happy to support it," the minister said during a lecture delivered in the Estonian capital.

"This is valid for many European countries. Turkey has been building mosques and sending imams," Cavusoglu said.

According to the Turkish minister, representatives of moderate Islam should be active in relaying their message, as otherwise people will be left under the influence of those teaching extremist forms of Islam.

"The Turkish religious authority Diyanet is strongly against any kind of radicalization. This is the best way to actually avoid radicalization," he said.
