Memory plate to be unveiled at former Swedish embassy building Riga on 25th anniversary
The 25th anniversary since re-opening of the Swedish embassy
in Riga will be marked by unveiling of a memory plate at the former embassy
building at 13 Lacplesa Street in Riga on August 29, BC was told at the
embassy.
Following the recognition of the Republic of Latvia by the
Kingdom of Sweden on August 27, 1991, and the restoration of Swedish-Latvian
diplomatic relations on August 28, 1991, Swedish Minister of Justice Laila
Freivalds re-opened the Embassy of Sweden in Riga on August 29.
The unveiling ceremony on August 29, 2016, will be attended
by Latvian-born Freivalds and Lars Peter Freden, who was the Swedish consul in
Riga from 1989 to 1991.
By now the Swedish embassy in Riga has moved to a different
location on Andrejs Pumpurs Street.
Current Swedish Ambassador to Latvia is Henrik Landerholm.
