Vilnius to light up 3 Crosses monument and Town Hall in colors of Ukrainian flag
Print versionThe Vilnius City Municipality changed its mind on Wednesday
and decided to light up the monument of Three Crosses and the Town Hall in the
colors of the flag of Ukraine, which is celebrating its 25-year independence
anniversary.
The monument and the Town Hall in the Lithuanian capital
will be lit up in light blue and yellow overnight.
The municipality had earlier rejected an application from a
group of activists to light up the monument of Three Crosses in the colors of
the Ukrainian flag, thus triggering a wave of indignation.
Aleksandras Zubriakovas,
spokesman for the Vilnius mayor, told that the municipality had earlier decided
to reject such type of applications – the Georgian Embassy recently had an
analogous plea rejected.
