BC, Riga, 02.05.2016.Print version

Marking the European Day, the European Dream Carnival will be organized in Latvia for the first time by the European Parliament Information Bureau (EPIB) in Latvia, informs LETA.

The event will be held in Latvia's southwestern Liepaja city on May 5 and eastwestern Daugavpils city on May 16.

Presenting the idea of the European Carnival, EPIB Latvia head Marta Ribele said that more than 60 years ago people dared to dream and had a future vision of a united Europe that later turned into the European Union.

"Those were brave people with brave ideas," said Ribele, adding that the idea of the European Carnival is to demonstrate Europe's common values to the young people in an attractive and inspiring way.

Schools competed for the opportunity to host the European Dream Carnival and two schools from Liepaja and Daugavpils won in the competition.

The events will be attended by Latvian MEPs Artis Pabriks (Unity) and Andrejs Mamikins (Harmony), representatives of local governments, and musician Joran Steinhauer, who represented Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with his Aarzemnieki band.

During the carnival, teams of pupils will compete for the main prize – the Euroscola event at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
