Polish royal sword brought to Lithuania's Palace of Grand Dukes

Specialists of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania carefully unpacked and exhibited a historical value from the Warsaw Royal Palace (Poland) on Friday afternoon – a ceremonial sword of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, lrytas.lt news portal said, cites LETA/BNS.

 

The sword was made in Warsaw in about 1764 for the coronation of Lithuania's Grand Duke and King of Poland Stanislaw August Poniatowski. Measuring almost a meter, the sword is made of gold, silver, enamel, steel and velvet, featuring an inscription Stanislaus Augustus Rex Dedit ANNO 1764 on its blade.

 

The sword, which is about the only remaining piece of royal insignia, will be displayed an an international exhibition, The Order of St. Stanislaus, opening at the Palace of the Grand Dukes on Feb. 16.
