A live fire exercise will kick off at the Estonian defense forces' central training range at noon on Friday in which U.S. artillery personnel will demonstrate the use of M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzers under Estonian conditions, informs LETA/BNS.

Self-propelled artillery is in Estonia for the first time and no live fire training exercises involving similar weapons have been held at the central training range earlier, military spokespeople in Tallinn told BNS.

The two 155-mm self-propelled howitzers to take part in the live fire exercise arrived at the Tapa base of the Estonian defense forces on Nov. 15 and will remain here until the beginning of December.

The equipment belongs to A Company, 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, which arrived in Estonia in October.

The Paladin artillery system is operated by a crew of four, a commander, driver, gunner and loader. Paladin is able to operate independently with no external technical assistance. It is capable of firing up to four rounds per minute to ranges of 30 kilometers. The platform has a top speed of 60 kmh and a range of over 300 km without refueling.
