Actors Grube, Broka, director Groza-Kibere winners of Latvian Theater Awards 2015

Director Elmars Senkovs' staging of "Antigone" was named the best production of the year at the Night of the Players Latvian theater award ceremony last night. Dainis Grube was honored as the best actor, Baiba Broka the best actress, and Laura Groza-Kibere the best stage director of the year, informs LETA.

 

Best production (large theater) award was presented to Vladislavs Nastavsevs' play "Lake of Hope" at the New Riga Theater, and best production (intimate theater) award went to Senkovs' "Antigone" staged at the Latvian National Theater. "The Ugly Duckling" staged by director Dmitrijs Petrenko at the Latvian Puppet Theater was honored as the best play for children.

 

Groza-Kibere received the best stage director's award for the production of "Equus" at the Daile Theater and "1984" at Liepaja Theater.

 

Grube was praised for his performance in Peter Shaffer's "Equis" and "All Her Books", based on Bernhard Schlink's "The Reader". On the other hand, Broka received the best actress's award for her performance of Aspazija in "Aspazija. Personally" and Matryona in Leo Tolstoy's "The Power of Darkness".

 

Lolita Cauka took the best supporting actress's award and Artis Robeznieks was named the best supporting actor. Jelena Netjosina was honored as the debut of the year for her performances in several plays at Daugavpils Theater.

 

Reinis Dzudzilo was named the best set designer, Kristine Jurjane and Sarmite Balode the best costume designers, and Igors Kapustins the best lighting designer. Evelina Godunova was given the award as the best ballet artist for her role of Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet" at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet.

 

Jekabs Nimanis was named the best composer and Inga Abele the best playwright for her play "Aspazija. Personally" staged at the New Riga Theater.

 

Uldis Dumpis and Girts Jakovlevs received lifetime achievement awards.

 

Audience awards went to Groza-Kibere's production of "Equus" at Daile Theater, and Grube and Ilze Kuzule-Skrastina as the best actor and actress.
