7 candidates to contend for mayor's seat in Lithuania's Telsiai district

Seven candidates will contend in the election for the mayor's seat in Telsiai district in Lithuania, which is to take place on 8 November. The election had to be announced following the death of Mayor Vytautas Kleiva on 10 July, reports LETA/ELTA,

 

The candidates are: Algirdas Bacevicius (self-nominated), Petras Kuizinas (the Labour Party), Almantas Lukavicius (the party Order and Justice), Deivydas Rubezius (the Lithuanian Liberty Union), Jolanta Rupeikiene (the Liberal Movement), Mantas Serva (the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats) and Saulius Urbonas (the Social Democratic Party).

 

According to the Central Electoral Commission (VRK), all candidates collected the required number of signatures of supporters in Telsiai municipality, i.e. at least 290 each.

 

Bacevicius, Kuizinas, Lukavicius, Rupeikiene and Serva participated in this year's municipal election. All of them became members of Telsiai District Municipality Council.

 

Deputy Mayor Petras Kuizinas was elected by the council as the interim mayor.

 

There are a total of 33 constituencies and around 39,000 voters in Telsiai district.
