The Latvian national football team snatched a 1:1 (0:0) draw against Turkey in a EURO 2016 qualifier in Turkey's Konya last night, reports LETA.

Selcuk Inan scored the goal for Turkey in the 77th minute of the match, but Valerijs Sabala scored an equalizer in injury time.

Although Latvia was under heavy pressure early on, Latvia's goalkeeper Andris Vanins was very convincing in the goal last night, and Latvia also had several excellent opportunities. After a scoreless first half, Inan finally opened the scoring on a pass from Arda Turan on the edge of the penalty area. However, substitute Sabala scored an equalizer in the first minute of injury time, and Latvia is bringing one point home from Turkey.

As reported, the previous match between these two teams in Riga ended in a 1:1 draw.

Latvia's next match will be against the Czech Republic in Riga on Sunday.

In the Group A standings at the moment, Iceland is in first place with 18 points, followed by the Czech Republic with 16 points, the Netherlands with 10 points, Turkey with nine points, Latvia with four points and Kazakhstan with one point.

The top two teams in each of the eight qualification groups will automatically qualify for EURO 2016, while the third place finishes will play in a special play-off stage for the final four spots in the tournament.
