Latvian basketball club ''VEF Riga'' has signed the promising Russian forward Vladislav Staratelev, the club has informed.

The club has signed the 19-year-old forward to a two-year contract, informs LETA.

Staratelev has played in the CSKA Moscow system the past several years, and was one of the leader of the Russian U-18 squad at last year's European Championships, averaging 11.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

As reported, ''VEF Riga'' defeated ''Ventspils'' 4-2 in the Latvian Basketball League finals this past season.

''VEF Riga'' will not be competing in ULEB European cup tournaments next season, but will be playing in both the Latvian Basketball League as well as the VTB United League.
