Music festival "Laba daba" opens in Latvian Ligatne

More than seventy bands and deejays will perform on five stages at the "Laba daba" International Music Festival (Ligatne County's Ratnieki) from today to August 2, offering music in a wide variety of genres, from folk to acoustic and rock, from indie to dubstep, as well as refreshing sound experiments that are not easy to classify, informs LETA.

 

As reported, one of the main events at "Laba daba" this year will be a performance by the legendary British post-punk band "The Fall". The headliners for the second day are "Brutto" from Belarus, described as a vigorous punk-rock cocktail.

 

Some of the other participants in the festival are "Rigas modes", "Nepieradinata folka orkestris", "Balozu pilni pagalmi", "Chomsky Chess Club", "Samba de Riga", "Zale", "Biezoknis", "Hipstokratija", Guntis Veilands and Lelde Riteniece, "Martas asinis", "Riga reggae", "Sound Religion", "Aurora", "Pienvedeja piedzivojumi", "Rebel Riot", "The pink elephant", "Dzelzs vilks", "Pcholi", "Pyro trees", Karlis Kazaks, "S.A.D.", Zakis, "Freelancers", "Cyber Mario", "Gateris", "Judas grasi", "Nebijusa restauratori", "Kastete", "Skandinieki", Nils Ile and "Afro Ambient", "The Sound Poets" with an acoustic program, "Oranzas brivdienas", "Sus dungo", "Krampis", "Burzuaziskas filosofijas marasms", "Marta migla", "Alis P", "Inokentijs Marpls", "Auli", "All Day Long", "Vilkaci", "Bezgalibiesi" and "Nohow".

 

Among the special events of the festival will be a joint concert by the "S.I.L.S." and "Sniegaviru rupnica" bands, choir "Aura" performance Saturday morning, a children's program on Saturday, and Gertrude Street Theater's performance directed by Girts Solis.

 

Of foreign performers, the festival's program also includes dub music band "Nucleus Roots" and punk-rock band "Subhumans" from Great Britain, "The Angelcy" from Israel, world music band "Ngoma Africa Band" from Germany, "Digital Digital" from Estonia, "Topsy Turvys" from France, and the said "Brutto" and "The Fall".

 

Latvian Radio 6, or the University of Latvia's NABA radio, will organize a forty-hour live broadcast from the festival.
