BC, Riga, 28.07.2015.Print version

On 27 July, the Youth Ambassadors for the European Year for Development – Carnival Youth, a Latvian indie rock band, signed an invitation to the Shining Stars of Europe Video Contest on Development Cooperation. The video contest is organised by Latvia in cooperation with the Luxembourg Presidency of the EU Council during the European Year for Development, reported BC the MFA of Latvia.

The musicians from Carnival Youth see the contest an excellent opportunity for young people to make themselves heard and present their vision, in a creative manner, of assistance to less developed countries.

Aleksis Lūriņš, Edgars Kaupers, Emīls Kaupers and Rolands Vanags, or the Carnival Youth band, chose to join the call of Latvia and the Luxembourg Presidency to promote the interest of Latvian young people in development cooperation. The musicians believe that active participation in the events of the Year for Development are key to one’s personal development and better awareness of the importance of helping others, and that each of us has a role to play in making the world a better place.

The aim of the Shining Stars of Europe Video Contest is to encourage young people to make short videos on development cooperation projects currently under way or present their own ideas on promoting sustainable growth and well-being across the world. The deadline for participation is 30 September 2015. See further information here.

The contest is one of the events of the European Year for Development in Latvia. The aim of the Year for Development is to raise awareness among the general public on the development cooperation policy of the EU and Latvia, and its results, as well as explaining its significance and benefits to all stakeholders.
