While on a visit to Baku, former President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga received the prestigious Azerbaijani "Dostlug" Order or the Order of Friendship, the Foreign Ministry informed LETA.

Vike-Freiberga met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who bestowed Vike-Freiberga with the order for active work as a co-chairwoman at the Nizami Ganjavi International Center.

At the meeting, geopolitical matters, situation in Azerbaijan's domestic affairs, and potential cooperation in culture were discussed.

The aim of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center is to educate society and facilitate tolerance and dialogue between different cultures. Vike-Freiberga and Ismail Serageldin, who is the director of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, have been co-chairing the Center since 2012, when it was founded.
