On Wednesday, the Latvian national men's handball team defeated Slovakia 25:18 in a qualification match for the 2016 European Men's Handball Championships, reports LETA.

Dainis Kristopans was the top scorer for Latvia with eight goals, followed by Girts Lilienfelds with six goals.

Latvia is in the same qualification group as Sweden, Slovenia and Slovakia.

As reported, Latvia opened the qualification campaign this past November with a 23:33 loss to Sweden and a 28:39 loss to Slovenia.

Latvia and Slovakia will play another qualification match on Saturday in Slovakia.

There are a total of seven qualification groups in the final qualification round. The winners, runners-up and the best third-placed finisher of the seven groups will qualify for the 2016 European Men's Handball Championships, which will be played in Poland.
