Gabrielius Landsbergis becomes new leader of Lithuania's Conservatives

On 25 April, MEP Gabrielius Landsbergis was elected as the new chairman of the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) in Lithuania, reports LETA/ELTA.

 

"A total of 4,036 votes were given in favour of Irena Degutiene and 5,024 for Landsbergis. This is preliminary data because 220 advance votes remain uncounted yet," said Monika Navickiene, executive secretary of the TS-LKD.

 

The party has more than 16,000 members in Lithuania; a total of 9,284 of them gave their votes during the second round of election.

 

The new TS-LKD leader will head the party for two years. MEP Gabrielius Landsbergis, a grandson of long-serving TS-LKD member and former chairman Vytautas Landsbergis, will replace MP Andrius Kubilius, who did not want for seek for another term of office as the party's chairman.
