Grybauskaite to receive Moldova's top state award

On Wednesday, 22 April, President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite will leave for Chisinau, the Capital of Moldova, to receive the top state award, the Order of the Republic of Moldova, informs LETA/ELTA.

 

The award will be bestowed for Grybauskaite's personal contribution towards enhancing bilateral relations between Lithuania and Moldova and her consistent support for Moldova's eurointegration aspirations.

 

Presidential Advisor on Foreign Policy, Renaldas Vaisbrodas, reminded in an interview to the radio Ziniu Radijas that Moldova and the European Union initialled the Association and Free Trade Agreement in 2013, at the Eastern Partnership meeting in Vilnius when Lithuania was presiding over the Council of the EU.

 

"This was the primary goal of Moldova's preceding Government and it is important to us that the agreement was initialled in Vilnius, during Lithuania's presidency of the Council of the EU," said the presidential advisor.

 

During her visit Grybauskaite will meet with President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti and have a working dinner with Prime Minister of Moldova Andrian Candu.

 

According to the presidential advisor, the visit will focus on the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga and address expectations of both sides. Lithuanian and Moldovan presidents will also discuss Moldova's progress in implementing eurointegration reforms. Strengthening of political and economic relations will be addressed. Finally, the situation in Ukraine will be discussed in detail.
