World Circus Day in Riga

BC, Riga, 17.04.2015.Print version

It is already the sixth year that World Circus Day is celebrated across the globe on the third Saturday of April. This year the celebration falls on Saturday, April 18 when all those standing close to the art and culture of circus – artists, families and children as well as everyone who loves circus – will have a special day.

The slogan Circus: culture for millions characterizes the European Circus Association (ECA) and its activities of promoting circus arts in the world of today. The European Circus Association unites circuses from 130 countries and circus organizations from 29 countries in the world; Latvia in the ECA is represented by Riga Circus. One of the founders of the European Circus Association is the World Federation of Circuses with Princess Stephanie of Monaco as its patroness. Riga Circus has prepared a special celebration programme with six shows named World Circus Days during April 16-26.

The World Circus Day is celebrated in all circuses around the world. We will celebrate this day together with circus acrobats, conjurers, clowns, horses, poodles, Dalmatians, ponies, a cock, goats, and parrots – all of them being sincere friends of children!

To give joy to its faithful spectators and admirers of the wonderful world of circus, Riga Circus welcomes everyone an hour before the show to enjoy special activities in the arena. Joyful music and colourful lights will accompany jugglers, acrobats and clowns when they encourage their spectators – children and adults – to enter into the spirit of a circus artist and try such activities as throwing and catching various things simultaneously, hula-hooping and tricks with diabolo spools, and perhaps even somersaulting; everyone will have a chance to test their abilities together with students of Riga Circus studio and professional circus artists.

Since January 2015 when Monaco held the 39th Monte-Carlo Circus Festival that has the fame of being the most impressive circus festival in the world, a great tradition was initiated, namely, if you have really enjoyed a visit to circus, take a picture of yourself smiling with a red clown's nose on and share your good-spirited selfie on social networks! Let the world become lighter and brighter for everyone!

During the World Circus Days everyone is welcome to try being a circus artist in the arena and capture the moment with a selfie.

Surprise! Riga Circus gives a red clown's nose as a gift to every little spectator!

Shows of Riga Circus provide an equal enjoyment for all members of family. We have thought of both – erudite adults and children to whom this circus experience might be the first encounter with live art. There is no language barrier in a circus show, it is intended for everybody.

You must see this! Give joy to your family and friends with a wonderful day together at Riga Circus!
