Kadri Simson temporarily takes the lead of the Estonian Centre Party
The board of Estonian biggest opposition party the Centre Party convened on Monday to discuss the situation that has developed after the sudden illness of party chairman Edgar Savisaar, LETA/Postimees Online reports.
The board decided that while Savisaar is away, the Centre Party will be headed by deputy chairwoman Kadri Simson.
The two party deputy chairpersons, Kadri Simson and Enn Eesmaa managed the party since Savisaar was hospitalised nearly two weeks ago.
Centre Party board also decided upon candidates of the party for parliament faction and board. The board was unanimous that Centre Party parliamentary faction board should continue as before – chairwoman being Kadri Simson, deputy chairpersons being Mailis Reps and Valeri Korb. They decided to appoint Jüri Ratas as the candidate for Riigikogu board.
Centre Party chairman, Mayor of Tallinn Edgar Savisaar was hospitalised nearly two weeks ago due to acute streptococcus infection and toxic shock syndrome and he has been under general anaesthesia since.
