Participants of Beijing Olympic Games were met in a ceremony in Vilnius on Tuesday, the Radio Vilnius informed.

Lithuanian athletes, not only medalists but also others who won the top eight positions, were honored in the European Square.

Gintarë Volungevièiûtë who won the silver medal in one of women's sailing events said that she did not expect to see such a welcoming ceremony.

In the opinion of Ramûnas Butautas, the coach of men's national basketball team, the team played well and he was sorry they did not succeed in gaining medals.

Among participants in the ceremony were the bronze medal winner, disk thrower Virgilijus Alekna, wrestler Mindaugas Mizgaitis, and two athletes who had placed fifth at the Olympics – shooter Dalia Gudzinevièiûtë and boxer Jaroslavas Jakðto.

Men's pentathlon bronze and silver medalists, Edvinas Krungolcas and Andrejus Zadneprovskis respectively, did not take part in the welcoming ceremony as they returned to Vilnius later in the day.
