Dons and Instrumenti take three awards each at annual Latvian Music Awards 2015

Pop singer-songwriter Dons and the boys band Instrumenti each collected three awards at the annual Latvian Music Awards "Zelta mikrofons 2015" ("Golden Microphone") ceremony on February 24th, informs LETA.

 

Dons' album "Varanasi" was named Best Pop Album/2014, the single "Tev piedzimis berns" (You Have a Baby) was named Best Song and "Pariet bailes" (I Fear No Longer) the song with heaviest rotation on radio.

 

Instrumenti, led by the falsetto vocalist Janis Sipkevics, won in the category Best Indie Album, and their song "King of the Wild Things" took Best Video. "Procrastination Live" was singled out as Best Concert Album.

 

The rock band Carnival Youth won for Debut of the Year, Bermudu divsturis took the Best Hip-Hop/Dance Music Album award, the legendary Jumprava and its recording "Laiks runa" (Time Speaks) was honored for Best Pop-rock Album.

 

Ainars Virga's solo venture "Dziesmas par dzivi un milestibu" (Songs of Life and Love) – Best Rock Album.

 

Aldis Rullis and Emburgas zeni's album "Es sapnoju" (I'm Dreaming) won the "Golden Microphone" for excellence in easy listening/country music.

 

ElektroFolk's recording of the same name took home Best Traditional Music Album, while the exquisite Latvian Voices and their album "Sounds of Latvian Nature" was lauded for Best Vocal/Choral Music Album.

 

"Raimonds Macats 5tets" (Karlis Vanags, Raimonds Macats, Juris Kristons, Oskars Sprogis and Artis Orubs), was named Best Jazz Album, Kashuka's "Piece of a Chance, Pt. 3" – Best Electronic Music Album, and Manta and their album of the same name – Best Alternative Music Album.

 

The hit song "Sekundes" by "Musiqq" won the audience favorite vote.

 

Poet Janis Peters – as lyricist for multiple hit songs, and Janis Sprogis – for his lilting tenor and lengthy career, were honored last night for lifetime achievement in music.

 

The annual Latvian Music Awards are organized by the Latvian Association of Sound Producers, Publishers and Distributors, Association of Latvian Performers and Producers, and Culture Ministry.
