On Wednesday, 28 January, Kaunas residents gathered in the garden of he Vytautas the Great War Museum and observed a minute of silence to commemorate civilians that were killed last weekend in Mariupol, Ukraine. People lit candles by the Freedom Statue, informs LETA/ELTA.

"It is crucial to support Ukrainians who are now trying to defend the freedom of their country. Recently we marked the 13th of January and the fight for Lithuania's freedom has not faded away from our hearts. So we know only too well what the Ukrainians have to endure now. It is essential to identify the real enemy, to reveal who he is pretending to be and to tell the world what is truly happening," said Kaunas Mayor Andrius Kupcinskas.

Participants of the campaign held banners supporting people of Mariupol and chanted slogans backing Ukraine's strive for independence.

As reported, on 24 January, Mariupol market and residential areas were under rocket fire in which 30 people were killed and hundreds more injured.
