Girgensons' team loses at NHL All-Star Game

The young Latvian hockey forward Zemgus Girgensons played his first NHL All-Star Game on Sunday as his Team Foligno lost to Team Toews 12:17 (4:4, 4:7, 4:6), informs LETA.

 

The 29 goals are an NHL All-Star Game record.

 

Girgensons was one of three players who scored no goals in yesterday's game. His team member Ryan Johansen (Columbus "Blue Jackets"), who scored two goals and had two assists, was named most valuable player. John Tavares (New York "Islanders") scored four goals for the winning team.

 

Girgeonsons said after the game that he had enjoyed it very much, and appreciated fans' support.

 

On Saturday, Girgensons helped Team Foligno win he NHL All-Star Skills Competition.

 

The last time a Latvian played in the NHL All-Star Game was in 2003, when defenseman Sandis Ozolins played in his seventh All-Star Game. Also, goalkeeper Arturs Irbe played in two All-Star Games.
