Latvian men's b-ball team to play nine exhibition matches ahead of Euro-2015
The Latvian national men's basketball team is scheduled to play nine exhibition matches ahead of this year's European Men's Basketball Championships (EuroBasket 2015), the Latvian Basketball Association informs LETA.
Six matches will be played on the road, while three will be played at ''Arena Riga''.
Latvia will play its first two exhibition matches in Riga – on August 7 against Poland, and on August 9 against Slovenia.
From August 14 to 16, Latvia will play in a four team exhibition tournament in Tbilisi against Georgia, Italy and Estonia.
From August 21 to 23, Latvia will play in a four team exhibition tournament in Germany against the hosts, as well as Turkey and Poland.
Latvia will conclude the preparation stage with an exhibition match in Riga on August 28. Discussions with potential teams are ongoing, with Israel one of the options at the moment.
The Latvian squad will likely open its first training camp on July 23, or six weeks before the start of EuroBasket.
Head coach Ainars Bagatskis intends on inviting between 16 to 18 players for the opening training camp.
As reported, Latvia is in Group D in the EuroBasket's preliminary round together with Lithuania, Ukraine, Belgium, Estonia and the Czech Republic.
Latvia will open the tournament on September 5 against Belgium. Latvia will play its next group matches on September 6 against Lithuania, September 7 against the Czech Republic, September 9 against Ukraine, and on September 10 against Estonia.
All of Latvia's games will start at 6:30 p.m. and will be played at ''Arena Riga''.
The top four team in each of the four groups will advance to the tournament's final 16, which will be played out in France from September 12 to 20.
