Ikaunieks from Latvia makes his debut with French football club ''Metz''

The up-and-coming Latvian footballer Janis Ikaunieks made his debut with French top division football club ''Metz'' last night, informs LETA.
Ikaunieks took the field in the 119th minute of the French Cup match against ''Avranches'', as his team won 3:0 to advance to the final 16 of the tournament.
The youngster has signed a 4.5 year contract with the French club.
The club purchased Ikaunieks from his Latvian club ''Liepaja''.
The 19-year-old midfielder scored 23 goals and made nine assists for ''Liepaja'' in the Latvian Football League this past season.
Ikaunieks also made his debut for the national team this fall.
At the moment, ''Metz'' is in 17th place in France's ''Ligue 1'' with 20 points from 20 matches.
