Latvian musicians whose songs were played the most often in other countries last year were Aisha, "Bet bet", "Brainstorm", Intars Busulis, Dj Ella and Normunds Rutulis, the British music licensing company "Phonographic Performance Limited" (PPL) informed a press conference yesterday, cites LETA.

PPL works together with the organization "The Union of Latvian Performers and Producers" (LaIPA) to distribute royalties for musicians, it therefore also has data about Latvian musicians' songs played in other countries.

According to PPL, Latvian musicians' songs were played not only in the other Baltic States, but also in Spain, the Great Britain, Sweden, Belgium, Ukraine, Croatia, and Serbia last year.

Aisha's song "What for" in 2010 was broadcast in three countries, whereas composition "Sāksim visu no jauna" by band "Bet Bet" was popular in Croatia.

PPL is music licensing company based in Great Britain, which represents more than 90,000 record companies and musicians helping to get fees for playing their songs in public places, radio, television, and the Internet.

The organization LaIPA is a union protecting the rights of Latvian musicians and producers. It represents more than 2,000 Latvian and 700,000 foreign musicians and music producers, including such major record companies as "Universal", "Sony", "Warner", and EMI.
