BC, Riga, 29.10.2014.Print version

From October 31 to November 2, 2014, the international amateur theater festival "Riga Plays Theater" will take place in VEF Culture Palace, where, besides Latvian-based companies, several foreign theaters will also present their productions, as the Riga City Council informed LETA.

On Friday October 31, the Georgian pantomime theater "Skhveni" ("The Attic") will show a series of comedic one-acts "Merry Novellas".

On October 31 and November 1, two Estonian theater troupes will perform – "Ranna-Viru Rahvateater" in Ivan Viripaev's play "Panteleyev Carmanov's Aphorisms", and "Salme Vallateater" with its production of "Untouched".

On November 1 the festival will see "Winter Troubles" from "Lietuvas Raseiniai" (Lithuania).

On November 2, the curtain will rise on "I Am Medea", staged by Abtenau City Theater (Austria).

"Lietuvas Raseiniai" will offer the opportunity to see a so-called biopic, dedicated to the 300th birthday of notable 18th century Lithuanian poet and founder of secular fiction in Lithuania, Kristijonas Donelaitis. The creation of Lithuanian directors Ramunas Abukevicius and Inesa Kurklietyte, the "joyful, witty and theatrical musical" "Winter Troubles", is based on Donelaitis' epic poem "The Seasons".

Also an exhibition of Lithuanian national costumes will be open during the festival.

On November 1 and 2, those amateur theater companies earning awards, will show their winning peroductions.

At the closing ceremony, festival attendees can enjoy a performance by Lithuanian Dance Theater "Tango &" and its production of "Malena".

This year's "Riga Plays Theater" offers you top class, non-professional foreign theater productions – free of charge.
