BC, Riga, 23.10.2014.Print version

In Barcelona's St. Agatha Chapel, a new exhibit has opened to the public focusing on the history of Latvia, informs LETA.

Titled "Latvia: the Fight for Freedom", the items and materials on display come from Riga's Occupation Museum, and the exhibit is part of the Barcelona city hall's project "Europe 25" – dedicated to 25 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War. Latvia is presented as one of the countries that regained independence as a result, and the period from 1918 all the way up to 2004, when Latvia joined the European Union, is covered.

Present at the opening were the city fathers, staff from Barcelona Museum of History, a delegation from the Occupation Museum, MEP Artis Pabriks and others. A highlight was the superb "Jove de l’Orfeó Catala" choir singing the unofficial anthem of Catalonia – Latvian composer Martins Brauns' "Saule. Perkons. Daugava".
