Other events in Baltic States

A week long serie of events will focus on Riga as the European Capital of Culture, making up the promotional "Latvia Week. Featuring Riga 2014." The events are organized by the Latvian Embassy in Japan, in tandem with the Agency for Investment and Development of Latvia, informed BC the Latvian Institute.

The opening event presents Latvian national treasure – the folksongs known as "dainas", and the delicate sounds of the string instrument – "kokle". A modern Japanese dance company is set to perform "interpretations on a Riga theme."

Through October 21, the Japanese will be welcome to walk through the Latvian folk arts and crafts fair titled "The Masters of Riga", a photography exhibit showing Riga's points of interest, a design exhibit, and taste-test a variety of food and beverage "Made in Latvia".

On October 19, Sanae Nakata, author of the popular "Hand-knitted Mittens of Latvia", will present her new book: "Hand-knitted Socks of Latvia".
