Netherlands presents tulip bed as gift on Latvia's presidency of EU Council

The Netherlands Embassy in Latvia presented a tulip bed as a gift to Latvia on the country's upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Communications and Public Relations Department of the Latvian Presidency of the EU Council informed LETA.

 

The tulip bed will be planted near the Latvian National Library today, at 12:45 p.m.


Participating in the ceremony will be Dutch Ambassador Henk Gerrit Cornelis van den Dool, Deputy-Secretary of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Inga Skujina, and Latvian National Library Director Andris Vilks.

 

The tulip bed will be formed in the shape of the logo of Latvia's presidency, and the Dutch Embassy hopes that residents and guests of Riga will like it.

 

It is said that the flowerbed consisting of more than 17,000 red and white tulips will begin to bloom in early spring.

 

The flowers will be planted by gardening specialists from the Netherlands.

 

Latvia will hold the presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2015.
