As of Thursday, nearly 1,800 participants have registered for the 42-kilometre race at the SEB Tallinn Marathon on September 14 and hence the event is moving towards yet another participation record, writes LETA/Postimees Online.

The largest popular sporting event in the Baltic States, the Tallinn Marathon has room for more than twenty thousand participants for all distances combined.

Last year, the marathon distance was run by 1,726 athletes. “The number of people already registered for the marathon this year and the pace at which new registrations are lodged, we can predict that we are facing yet another participation record; never before have so many runners been sent off to a classic marathon distance of 42 kilometres in Estonia, or in any other Baltic States,” said the Chief Organiser of the marathon Mati Lilliallik.

Participants can test their mettle in a marathon run (42.195 kilometres), half-marathon run (21.1 kilometres), 10-kilometre run and walking race (including Nordic walking), 4-kilometre Nike Youth Run and various Mesikäpp Children’s Races.

Last year, a total of 20,562 persons took part in the races in various categories.
