Lithuanian PM submits energy min's dismissal to president

BC, Vilnius, 19.08.2014.Print version

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius confirmed on Tuesday that he has submitted to President Dalia Grybauskaite the proposal to dismiss Energy Minister Jaroslav Neverovich who was delegated by the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (LLRA). The political council of the Coalition partners should be held next week, reports LETA/ELTA.

The prime minister said he has not been in contact with Chairman of the LLRA Valdemar Tomasevski since after deciding to propose to dismiss Neverovich. The prime minister made the move when without his consent Neverovich appointed Renata Cytacka of the LLRA as Deputy Energy Minister.

"I last spoke to Tomasevski on Thursday," said Butkevicius.

However, the prime minister talked with the leader of the Labour Party, Parliament Speaker Loreta Grauziniene.

"She assured me that there can be no wavering, I have her support. The political council decided that the prime minister chooses ministers delegated by party leaders. You remember perfectly well that we followed this provision when the Government was being formed, and I do not think we will be returning to different decisions," said Butkevicius.

When asked about criticism from the Coalition partners, the prime minister replied that "certain politicians are sometimes politicking a bit".

The head of the Government stressed that he does not tolerate political games "because of one or another persons".

"I have more information. I positively value Neverovich as a politician. The minister must understand that he is a member of the Government's team, I urged him not to give in to Tomasevski's pressure and take principled actions," said Butkevicius.
